Both of these books are on the advanced side. See below for my specific comments. However, if you're not a total software newbie, you might want to consider these rather than Photoshop for Dummies. One thing to keep in mind is that Photoshop is an amazing piece of software with potential most users will never appreciate. These books get you into that next step. If you have arrived here from a discussion board, you'll hear how you have to pay $799 for photoshop. Not true if you shop around. Try gradware.com (academic prices where almost anyone (or someone you know!) can qualify) or pricewatch.com. <click on images to go to Amazon> |

| Evening, M. (2003). Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for Photographers. Oxford: Focal Press. | Bouton, G.D., & Bouton, B. (1999). Inside Adobe Photoshop 5, Limited Edition. Indianapolis: New Riders Publishing. | ||
I find both of these books useful. Both come with a CD. The Evening book is a great stepping through of Photoshop features - basic through advanced. The focus is always on working with photographs. The Bouton book is a little more conceptual. Chapters start with ideas about what to do with a photo and then go through the methodology to arrive at the goal. |
Note that I have the Photoshop 5 book. You'll want the Photoshop 7 book (see right). Both images go to the Photoshop 7 book at Amazon. |
